Choosing the right Jotun paint for your home

Jotun makes a separate product for almost every surface, so the first question is not colour but where the paint is going. Here is how we explain it to customers at our Islamabad shop.

Which Jotun line suits which job

• Interior walls: the Fenomastic range, such as Fenomastic My Home Rich Matt and Fenomastic My Home Smooth Silk. Durosan is a simpler option for budget jobs and rented homes. See interior wall paint.
• Kitchens, bathrooms and children's rooms: Fenomastic Hygiene Emulsion, made for rooms that need regular cleaning.
• Exterior walls: Jotashield ColourLast and Easyguard, made to handle sun and rain. See exterior wall paint.
• Doors, grills and metal: Fenomastic Pure Colours Enamel in gloss, semi gloss or matt. See enamel paint.
• Wood: Woodshield stains and varnishes, for interior or exterior. See wood finishes.
• Feature walls: Lady Design inside and Jotashield textures outside.

The usual order of work

A good paint job is a system, not one tin. On most walls it goes: a primer suited to the surface, then putty or filler where the wall has cracks or roughness, then two coats of the finish paint. Skipping the primer is the most common reason paint peels or looks patchy.

Colours, bases and pack sizes

Many Jotun products are sold as a base and mixed to your colour code. You can browse the Jotun 128 shade interior colour card and the Jotashield exterior card on the product pages. For tinted paint, the final price depends on the colour and the amount of tint used, and mixed paint cannot be returned, so please confirm your shade before ordering. Pack sizes are quarter, gallon and drum where available.
