Aluminium Venetian blinds: simple, practical light control

A Venetian blind has horizontal aluminium slats joined by cords. Turn the wand or cord to tilt the slats, and you control exactly how much light comes in and in which direction. Pull the cord to raise the whole blind. It is a simple design that has stayed popular because it works.

Where Venetian blinds suit best

• Kitchens: aluminium handles steam and heat, and the slats wipe clean.
• Bathrooms: better with damp than wood or fabric.
• Offices and studies: tilt the slats upward to keep daylight in the room while cutting glare on screens.
• Shops and clinics that need a clean, practical finish.

Venetian, mini or wooden?

All three use tilting slats. Mini blinds have narrower aluminium slats for small windows. Venetian blinds have wider slats and look more in proportion on medium and large windows. Wooden blinds give the same control with a warmer look for living rooms, but are not ideal in damp rooms.

Tips for choosing

• White and light colours keep a room bright and suit most walls.
• Darker or metallic colours can suit modern kitchens and offices.
• Tilting the slats upward gives privacy from the street while light still bounces off the ceiling.

Measuring and fitting

For an inside fit, measure the recess width at three points and use the smallest, then the height. For an outside fit, add some width on each side. Check that window handles do not get in the way. Measure the recess or wall, never the glass. If you measure yourself, the sizes are your responsibility. If you book a home visit, our team measures and takes responsibility. Venetian blinds are made to measure, so they cannot be returned. We confirm sizes and colour before making them.
