MDF laminate flooring: a sensible choice for lighter use

MDF stands for medium density fibreboard. Like HDF, it is made from wood fibres pressed into a board, with a printed wood design and a protective top layer. The difference is density. MDF is less tightly pressed than HDF, which makes it lighter and usually easier on the budget. For many rooms, that is all you need.

Where MDF flooring works well

• Bedrooms and guest rooms where footfall is light
• Rented homes and flats where you want a quick upgrade
• Small offices, study rooms and back rooms
• Rooms you plan to refresh again in a few years

Where to choose something else

For busy lounges, shops or rooms with heavy furniture moved often, HDF is the stronger choice. See our HDF flooring range. MDF is more sensitive to water than HDF, so keep it out of kitchens, bathrooms and any area that gets wet. Mop with a well-wrung cloth and wipe spills straight away. For damp areas, vinyl flooring is more practical.

We stock MDF Laminated Flooring 8mm. It gives a clean wood look and fits over a flat, dry floor. Ask us which shades are in stock when you visit, as colours can change with new batches.

Honest advice before you buy

If you are unsure between MDF and HDF, tell us the room, who uses it and how long you plan to keep the floor. We will tell you plainly if MDF will do the job or if HDF is worth the extra. We would rather sell you the right floor than the wrong one twice.

Measuring and fitting

MDF flooring is sold by area. The room calculator works out how much you need from your room length and width, with a cutting allowance included. Prefer us to measure? Book a home visit. There is a small visit fee, adjusted fully in your bill when you order. Our own team delivers and fits in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
